My Writings

Here, on this page, are some of my WIP. At some point, I plan on sharing snippets for each of them. And, just so you know, these titles may or may not change.

Strangers

Genre: Christian/Young Adult

Progress: First draft

Word Count: roughly 40,000

Synopsis: Lacey Smith and Todd Copps are both struggling with big changes in their lives. Lacey and her family are moving to a new town, and Todd is forced to step up before he is ready. Then, both of them are thrown together, taken captive by a man running from the law, and they have to learn to work together if they want to survive.

Note: This book is the first of a series. I don't know how long the series is going to be, but I have the main ideas of the next three books and have started writing some of them.

Snippet

I don't want to unpack. Unpacking means that you plan to stay for a long time, each item representing a day. The days piling up to weeks, months, years, decades. Every item just means that's one more day I'll have to stay here. And I'm not ready to accept that.
I hear footsteps on the stairs, and by the time they get to the hallway, I have identified who they belong to just by the sound.
"I brought the things you left in my truck," Chad informs me as he walks past me and into my room, setting my things down in the middle of the floor.
I don't look at him or speak to him. I just continue staring into this room that is supposedly mine. But it's not! I left my room behind, everything behind, everything that's important.
I hear Chad take a deep breath before softly saying, "Lacey, I know this is hard, but I also know that you can, and will, learn to love this place." He pauses for a moment, but it feels like forever. "Do you want me to help you unpack?"
I lift tear-filled eyes and look at my brother, begging him to understand.
        "C'mere," Chad says quietly.
I hesitate, not sure if I can enter this room, but I find myself moving forward, my feet slowly, automatically carrying me towards the person I have come to associate with home and safety. I come to a stop a few feet in front of Chad. But he reaches out and pulls me into his strong arms. He always did know when I needed a hug. As my arms go around his waist, I squeeze my eyes shut. I refuse to let my tears fall.
Why doesn't anyone understand? They all say they do, but really they don't. No one knows what I'm feeling, what I'm going through.
I don't want the hug to end, I'm not ready for it to end, but Chad takes me by the shoulders and holds me away from him. The tender look in his eyes almost makes me lose the battle, but I am just able to keep the tears at bay.

The Barrier

Genre: Christian/Young Adult/Historical Fiction

Progress: First round of edits.

Word Count: 55,000

Synopsis: Katie hasn't seen anything beyond the four walls that surround her village. But it has been her dream to go outside for as long as she can remember. When she bumps into a complete stranger, Katie begins to wonder if he could be her way out. That is until strange things begin to happen in the village.

Note: This book is currently a standalone, but I've been playing with the idea of making it a trilogy. It would definitely be possible.

Roping the Overcomer

 Genre: Christian/Contemporary

Progress: First draft

Word Count: 21,000

Synopsis: Audrey Hayes and her older brother travel from rodeo to rodeo. Being born prematurely, Audrey has always been underestimated. All her life, she's been told what she can and can't do. But she's out to prove everyone wrong. At one of the rodeos, Audrey and her brother meet a group of people who travel around like they do. Each one has come from a different walk of life. Something made/helped them turn their lives around, and Audrey wants it to.
